Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph Black Ceramic
Decade long milestones are always great moments to engage in celebrations. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the “Royal Oak Offshore”, Audemars Piguet has released the first model in this collection with a case and bracelet made completely in ceramic. For context we need to recall that the “ROO” was originally introduced in 1993, as a response to the decline in sales for the original Royal Oak. Now in current times both versions are well established crowd pleasers that merit these festivities. The 42 mm case is made of black ceramic with a mix of polished accents and a vertically brushed surface finish. Mounted to the case is AP’s signature octagonal bezel also with a vertical satin-brushed finish and eight exposed white gold screws. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition case back (with titanium surrounding) that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The gold oscillating weight is decorated with Cotes de Genève, circular graining, circular satin finishing and polished bevels. It comes equipped with two solid push-pieces that activate the chronograph functions, while between them lay protecting crown guards and the screw-down setting crown adorned with the AP logo. All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).Time is exhibited on a black dial with the signature Audemar Piguet “Petite Tapisserie” pattern dial with white gold applied hour index markers. Circling around the sloped flange is a printed minutes/seconds track ring, followed by a tachymeter scale. It features three sub-dials: small seconds at 6 o’clock, a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter at the 12 o’clock position. There is also a circular date aperture aligned at the 3 o’clock spot.Logo placement has been an area for experimentation in recent releases. This model includes both the short “AP” and long-form "Audemars Piguet" logo in gold, in the central right portion. The central hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
