Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver
One of most celebrated Audemars Piguet models often seen on the wrist of many celebrity athletes is back with two noteworthy modifications: the all new in-house caliber 4308 and its first-ever interchangeable strap system. We’re talking about the “AP Royal Oak Offshore” which rarely goes unnoticed on anyones wrist due to its massive proportions. Plus take another close look at that dial design and choice of materials because you may be pleasantly surprised, or not.The 42mm case is made of stainless-steel and comes mounted by the iconic “Royal Oak” octagonal shaped bezel made of stainless-steel with the exposed screws. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. This new AP caliber features a black-finished 22k pink gold winding rotor and is adorned by the Côtes de Genève stripes. It comes equipped with black or grey ceramic screw-locked crowns in the form of the: setting-crown at 3 o’clock and another aligned with the 10 o’clock position that controls the inner bezel. Previous models usually had rubber coated crowns, which were a more sporty option versus the new ceramic selection. All topped by a glare proofed sapphire crystal and a water-resistance that can reach up to 300 meters (984 feet). Time is exhibited on the iconic AP dial known as “Mega Tapisserie”, which is a pattern of large squares, obtained thru a hand guilloché that can be had in a black, grey, or khaki green version. Audemars Piguet has slightly updated the layout design by using short and fat hour markers, instead of the thin and longer indexes we were accustomed to. Plus they’ve swapped the full brand name for a simpler “AP” signature on the upper-half of the dial. Not all these modifications have been complete crowd pleasers, but they will definitely find an audience. It also features a 60-minute scale timing ring circling around the stepped inner bezel, with the first 15 minutes section highlighted in a contrasting color for each model. The white gold (or, rose gold on the khaki green version) central hands and hour index markers have all been given a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture placed at the 3 o’clock position.
