Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin Openworked
One of the most iconic watches in the history of horology is celebrating its 50th anniversary. We’re referring to the “Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin Openworked”. These are the first openworked Jumbos to be released in eight years and they come equipped with the all new ultra-thin caliber 7124.The 39mm case is available in either stainless-steel or 18k pink gold with a vertical brushed surface and polished accents. Mounted to the case of both versions is Royal Oak’s iconic octagonal bezel with 8 exposed white gold screws. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The “50” years carved out gold oscillating weight will only be featured on the models sold during 2022, which will make them some-what collectibles, as the current production continues on without this distinct characteristic. This extra-thin case measures in at a height of only 8mm, which matches the same thickness of the previous generation Jumbo. It comes equipped with a setting-crown adorned by the “AP” logo. All topped by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 50 meters (164 feet).Time is exhibited on an openworked dial (also commonly referred to as skeletonized dial) with 18k pink gold applied hour index markers (on both versions), while circling around the sloped inner bezel is a rhodium-toned (steel version) or black-toned (18k pink gold) minute ring. In the midst of the dial we get to contemplate various purple jewels and some white gold screws, amongst many other golden gears. The two models differ from each other since the stainless-steel version has a rhodium-toned mainplate and bridges that blend in well with the steel case; while the 18k pink gold version has a slate grey mainplate and bridges that offer an elegant contrast to the pink gold casing. The central 18k pink gold hands and hour index markers seen on both models have been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. Plus the brands "Audemars Piguet" logo has been applied directly to the sapphire crystal and hovers over all the exposed intricate parts.
