Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph 41mm
Recently we were overwhelmed with a huge range of updates across the “Royal Oak” collection, as Audemars Piguet celebrates its 50th anniversary. We’ve already reviewed the time-and-date models and the flying tourbillon option. Now we’ll shift focus to the “Royal Oak Chronograph”, which is powered by a new caliber movement and appears here in a wide array of selections that include different alloys and colors, on straps or bracelets. The historic Gérald Genta designed case appears here in a 41mm diameter and 12.4mm thickness made out of either stainless-steel or 18k pink gold.On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition case back, which allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The gold oscillating weight with a carved out “50” years emblem, will only be featured on the models sold during 2022, which will make them some-what collectibles, as the current production continues on without this distinct characteristic.Mounted to the case is the iconic octagonal bezel, held in place by 8 exposed screws. It comes equipped with two solid push-pieces that activate the chronograph functions, while between them lay protecting crown guards and the screw-in setting crown. All topped by a glare-proofed sapphire crystal. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 50 meters (164 feet).Time is exhibited on either a black, blue, green, or silver-toned dial with the “Grande Tapisserie” pattern and 18k white or pink gold applied hour index markers. While circling around the flange is a printed minutes/seconds track ring.It features three snailed sub-dials: a 12-hour counter at 3 o’clock, a sub-seconds at 6 o’clock, and a 30-minute counter at the 9 o’clock position. There is also a date aperture placed between the 4 and 5 o’clock spots. On the upper-half of the dial is the long-form "Audemars Piguet" logo in gold, matching each versions case alloy. The 18k white or pink gold hands and hour index markers have all undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
