Audemars Piguet Openworked Perpetual Calendar with Calibre 7139

Audemars Piguet Openworked Perpetual Calendar with Calibre 7139

Audemars Piguet advances its mastery of celestial timekeeping with a pair of openworked perpetual calendars powered by the new Calibre 7139, marking a significant evolution in both ergonomics and architectural expression. Building on decades of research into perpetual calendar mechanics and openworking, this contemporary movement debuts in two distinct personalities: one poised and refined in the Code 11.59 Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Openworked, the other bold and technical in the Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Openworked. Together, they articulate a new chapter for AP’s most emblematic complication, uniting heritage craftsmanship with modern design and mechanical clarity.

Both watches are presented in 41mm cases that share refined proportions and a strong presence on the wrist. On the Code 11.59 model, the case combines 18‑carat white gold with a black ceramic middle, enhanced by alternating satin‑brushed and polished surfaces that lend depth and nuance to the round‑case and octagonal core architecture. Its thickness of 10.6 mm and double‑curved sapphire crystal reinforce a sense of elegant balance. The Royal Oak version, by contrast, pairs a titanium case with a Bulk Metallic Glass (BMG) bezel and studs, creating a striking contrast between satin‑brushed grey surfaces and mirror‑like palladium‑rich BMG elements. Its slimmer 9.5 mm profile and integrated bracelet architecture underline the collection’s technical boldness. On both models, sapphire crystal casebacks provide unobstructed views of the openworked calibre 7139 with its bridges, skeletonised components, and decorative contrasts in pink gold and steel tones rendered with meticulous hand finishing. The transparency celebrates both the mechanics and the high degree of artisanal decoration, while the robust case construction preserves a balanced visual experience from front and rear. The Code 11.59 sports a polished crown at 3 o’clock flanked by slender casebands, while the Royal Oak integrates its crown seamlessly into the iconic octagonal silhouette with protective shoulders. Both front crystals are treated with anti‑reflective coating for optimal legibility. Water‑resistance can reach up to 30 meters on the Code 11.59 and 50 meters (165 feet) on the Royal Oak.
In both variations, the dial architecture revolves around openworked visibility and functional clarity. The Code 11.59 employs a transparent sapphire dial with lightly smoked subdials that hover above the exposed mechanics. Each calendar indication: day at 9, date at 12, month and leap year at 3, and moon phase at 6, is readable yet integrated into the open plane, while a peripheral week scale and central hand add a layer of practicality. The Royal Oak’s dial is similarly skeletonised but structured within the sportier context of its signature faceted bezel. Its inclined inner flange carries week number markings, and the chronograph‑style layout places the minutes and hours tracks in closer alignment with the movement. Smoked sub-dials maintain readability while enhancing the layered depth of the three‑dimensional openworking.Applied pink gold hour markers and hands on both watches are treated with Super‑LumiNova, adding legibility in varied lighting conditions. The juxtaposition of polished indices against the openworked backdrop reinforces both technical precision and visual balance.

Audemars Piguet Openworked Perpetual Calendar with Calibre 7139

The ‘Code 11.59 Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Openworked’ (Ref#: 26443NB.OO.D002CR.01) and the ‘Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Openworked’ (Ref#: 26685XT.OO.1320XT.01) are powered by the in‑house self‑winding mechanical movement, caliber 7139 with 29 jewels and 28,800 vph. It comes equipped with an integrated perpetual calendar mechanism incorporating Audemars Piguet’s patented all‑in‑one crown correction system, allowing all calendar functions to be adjusted via the crown alone, and openworked bridges adorned with sharp internal angles. Power reserve can last up to 55 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on the Code 11.59 is a black alligator strap secured by a white gold folding clasp, offering quiet elegance that complements the refined case materials and transparent dial. Mounted on the Royal Oak is an integrated titanium bracelet accented with BMG studs, closed by an Audemars Piguet folding clasp, tying the mechanical architecture to one of the brand’s most enduring sports‑watch profiles. Both bracelets reinforce the watches’ respective characters: the Code 11.59’s poised refinement and the Royal Oak’s technical boldness, while providing comfortable, articulate wear for their integrated 41 mm platforms.
