A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Outsize Date
The Saxonia model by A. Lange & Söhne first appeared over two decades ago in 1994, while the first black dial versions were only released back in 2018. The true novelty in this latest update comes in the form of a silver argenté dial, which illuminates the face with a naturally classic look. The 38.5mm case is available in 18k white (Ref#: 381.026) or rose gold (Ref#: 381.032), just as the previous black dial versions were. While on the flip-side we encounter a sapphire exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement.Mounted to the case is a polished bezel with brushed case bands. These contrasting finishes attribute the case with a nuanced depth. It's a quite lean and compact structure with a mere 9.6mm in height. There is also a pusher at 10 o'clock for a quick date correction. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 30m (98 feet). Time is exhibited on a solid silver argenté dial with gold applied indices that match the alloy of its corresponding case option. A ring of very thin black printed minute markers are also seen discreetly circling the periphery of the dial. The iconic outsized date is positioned below the 12 o’clock position with its gold framed two-window aperture. These digits are approximately three times larger than those usually seen on conventional dial layouts. It has a prominent presence that makes it literally a defining feature of this model.
While the lower-half contains a small seconds sub-dial at the 6 o’clock, which provides just the right amount of subtle contrast due to its nailed finish. Other than that the dial is very clean with a classic vibe, which all comes together with its sold gold central hands.
