A. Lange Söhne Odysseus

After first releasing it in stainless-steel back in October 2019, A. Lange Söhne follows up with an 18k white gold version of their “Odysseus”, at Wonders and Watches online. The Saxon watchmaker firmly pulls ahead with all its germanic might, in the form of this solid timepiece built to withstand sporty endeavor, yet designed elegantly enough for any social encounter.

The round 40.5mm case is made out of 18k white gold with a transparent exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement.

There are many watches that offer this inner sneak-peak, but here we are truly greeted with beautifully hand-finished details. Plus a skeletonized and partially black-rhodium central rotor featuring a centrifugal mass in platinum, for improved efficiency.

This is a three-piece case that is further highlighted by the contrasting brushed surfaces and polished chambers. It also comes equipped with a setting-crown, which includes juxtaposed tapered buttons, discreetly placed above and beneath the crown for correcting the day and date. All topped by a sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 120 meters (390 feet).

Time is exhibited on a grey dial with white gold appliqué hour index markers, while in the periphery is circling a bevelled argenté-hued ring with minute index markers and numerals for every 5-minute increment; plus an added dash of color at the 60-minute mark in red.

This dial is characterized with different levels of depth by crafting a plain center, which contrasts with an uplifted textured ring, where they’ve laid the index markers; plus the large-format day aperture at 9 o’clock and split date window at 3 o’clock. There is also a sub-seconds aligned at 6 o’clock. The central 18k white gold hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility.

 A. Lange Söhne Odysseus

The “A. Lange Söhne Odysseus” (References below) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber L.155.1 with 32 jewels and 28,800 Vph. Engraved on the rotor is the term “DATOMATIC” that stands for the date mechanism combined with automatic winding. Power reserve on this watch can last up to 50 hours, when fully wound.

Mounted to the watch is either a hand-stitched brown leather strap (Ref#: 363.038)

or a black rubber strap (Ref#: 363.068), both secured to the wrist by an 18k white gold buckle.

Either strap option is sold with the same price tag. For more up to date information visit the official A. Lange Söhne website here.
