To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Datograph, A. Lange & Söhne introduced a special edition of the Datograph Up/Down model for 2024. This limited edition timepiece, available in 18-carat white gold with a stunning blue dial, is restricted to just 125 pieces. Unveiled in April at the Watches and Wonders Geneva 2024 exhibition alongside the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold Lumen, this release marked a significant milestone in the brand’s illustrious history.The 41mm case with a thickness of 13.1mm is made of 18-carat white gold, combining a luxurious feel with a robust structure. This elegant design provides a refined yet substantial presence on the wrist, ideal for both formal and casual settings.
On the flipside is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features the minute counter mechanism and the column wheel, which controls the start and stop sequences, showcasing the watch’s intricate craftsmanship.
All topped by a flat sapphire crystal, ensuring clear visibility of the dial. The white gold case, combined with its precise finishes, underscores the watch’s sophistication. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet).
Time is exhibited on a blue dial with rhodié-colored subsidiary dials and luminous hands. The twin date aperture positioned below 12 o’clock forms the tip of an equilateral triangle, contributing to the watch’s balanced aesthetic.
The chronograph subdials for the small seconds at 9 o’clock and the jumping minute counter at 3 o’clock enhance the visual symmetry, providing a clear and legible display. The luminous hands and baton hour markers offer excellent readability against the deep blue backdrop.
There is also a power-reserve indicator on the dial, ensuring that the watch’s functionality is easily monitored. This design choice complements the overall look, combining elegance with practicality.

The “A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Up/Down” (Ref#: 405.028) is powered by the hand-wound calibre L951.6, featuring 46 jewels and consisting of 451 parts, assembled twice to ensure precision. This movement is renowned for its technical sophistication, complex architecture, and superior degree of finishing.
It comes equipped with a balance wheel with eccentric poising weights, beating at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5 Hz), enabling time measurements with an accuracy of one-fifth of a second. The flyback mechanism allows for quick consecutive time measurements with virtually no delay between them. Power reserve can last up to 60 hours when fully wound.
Mounted on the watch is a blue alligator scaled strap with exposed white stitchings, while secured to the wrist by a white gold folding clasp. This is a limited edition of only 125 manufactured pieces.
