When it comes to luxury watches that showcase a complete calendar, Vacheron Constantin is by far one of the best in the industry. Recently they expanded their “Traditionnelle Collection” with a pair of distinct gold editions that feature a new semi-openworked dial in a model they’ve named the “Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Complete Calendar Openface”.The round 41mm stepped case can be had in either 18k white gold or 18k 5N pink gold, both mounted by a polished bezel. Despite all the dial’s complications this case is quite simple in design. On the flip-side is an exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features an openworked 22k gold rotor decorated with brushed areas and a polished Maltese cross. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet). It comes equipped with a setting crown also adorned by a Maltese cross, while discreetly tucked away along the case-bands are the small corrector pushers to properly set the complete calendar. The moon phase display will only require one correction after every 122 years.Time is exhibited on a partial grey and openworked dial with gold applied hour index markers, followed by a grey railroad-motif with white printed minute markers. Circling around the darker grey oplaine flange is the 31-day date function, which is indicated by a blackened gold pointer hand with a white crescent-shaped tip.Usually open-faced watches come with a skeletonized movement, but instead Vacheron opted for a transparent dial that reveals the intricate gears and components of the calendar module. This decision managed to provide a more accessible price-tag, while also offering a unique look of its own.The complete calendar is represented with two large sub-dials: a month wheel at 2 o’clock and the week indicator aligned with the 10 o’clock position. While on the lower-half of the dial is a moon-phase disc with two photo-realistic depictions of the moon, covered by a translucent sapphire mask. The central dauphine-style hands are made out of the same gold to match each model's case. These elements recall the more classical traits of the Traditionnelle collection, while the sapphire crystal portions that reveal the brass gear train contrasting with the grey NAC-coated anthracite bridges and mainplate, provide a more contemporary flair to this new release.
