Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Skeleton Blue
After steel comes gold as Vacheron Constantin offers up a new version of their “Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin” with a skeleton blue dial. Once again the master craftsmanship of this historic watch manufacture is on full display here. From jampacking multiple complications within a slim thin encasing, to revealing those ticking gears with a skeletonized front and back. The 41.5mm case is made of 18k pink gold with vertically brushed surfaces and polished finished accents, while the “ultra-thin” designation derives from its mere 8.1mm thickness. Mounted to the case is a notched bezel that can be seen as evoking the shape of a Maltese Cross, the emblem of Vacheron Constantin. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the mechanical movement. It showcases an open-worked caliber with the rotor and bridges treated in gray ruthenium. It comes equipped with a knurled setting-crown adorned by the Maltese cross, with small push correctors to each of its sides, to adjust the perpetual calendar as required. All topped by a sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 50 meters (164 feet).Time is exhibited on a skeleton dial with 18k pink gold applied hour index markers, followed by a sloped flange with a blue 60-minute scale ring. The perpetual calendar is spread out on four sub-dials: the date at 3 o’clock, current day at 9 o’clock, and month at the 12 o’clock position, which includes the months of the leap year.Meanwhile on the lower-half of the dial is a finely detailed translucent two-layer moon-phase sub-dial, aligned at 6 o’clock. The central sword-shaped pink gold hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
