Ulysse Nardin Blast Amoureuxpeintre
Ulysse Nardin continues to push the boundaries of avant-garde watchmaking with the “Blast Amoureuxpeintre”, a striking fusion of high horology and contemporary minimalist design. Created in collaboration with Vsevolod Sever Cherepanov, a designer known for his conceptual monochromatic aesthetic, this limited edition of 29 pieces reinterprets the Blast collection with a more restrained yet futuristic approach.Retaining the architectural lines of the original, this version introduces a sandblasted anthracite PVD-coated titanium case, a frosted sapphire dial that subtly reveals the movement beneath, and a hand-wound UN-371 calibre with an impressive 96-hour power reserve. The absence of running seconds enhances the sleek, almost meditative design, making it as much an artistic statement as it is a high-precision timepiece.
The Ulysse Nardin Blast Amoureuxpeintre is housed in a 42mm titanium case, finished with anthracite PVD coating and a sandblasted texture that enhances its modern, industrial aesthetic. The angular architecture of the case reflects the signature Blast DNA, with sharply faceted lugs and integrated surfaces that seamlessly transition between brushed and sandblasted finishes.
Turning the watch over reveals a frosted sapphire caseback, secured by six screws, offering a subtle yet compelling glimpse of the manual-winding UN-371 movement. This transparent design maintains Cherepanov’s artistic vision, allowing the wearer to see the outlines of the movement’s bridges and components while keeping the focus on simplicity. A small numbered plaque is affixed to the case side, denoting each of the 29 individually numbered pieces in this limited edition. It also comes equipped with a screw-in crown, designed for ease of use while maintaining the sleek, uninterrupted silhouette of the case. Water-resistance can reach up to 50 meters (165 feet).
Time is exhibited on a frosted sapphire dial, a bold departure from the brand’s usual openworked designs. This translucent surface subtly reveals the mechanical movement beneath while maintaining an air of minimalism and modernity. The dial’s frosted effect adds depth and texture, reflecting the artistic influence of Vsevolod Sever Cherepanov, whose work often embraces monochromatic simplicity.A dark gray angled rehaut encircles the dial, marked with discreet hour indicators that blend seamlessly into the design. The hands are skeletonized daggers, finished in anthracite to match the case, enhancing the watch’s monochrome aesthetic. Their streamlined shape keeps visual clutter to a minimum, ensuring that the emphasis remains on the interplay between the frosted dial and the exposed movement beneath.
For optimal legibility in low-light conditions, the hour and minute hands are partially filled with gray Super-LumiNova, subtly integrating functionality without disrupting the watch’s minimalist aesthetic. Notably, the Blast Amoureuxpeintre omits a running seconds hand, reinforcing its clean, design-focused approach while ensuring that the passage of time remains an understated yet powerful presence on the wrist.
