Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT
At this year's Watches & Wonders event, one of Tudor enthusiasts' long-awaited requests comes to fruition with the unveiling of the Black Bay 58 GMT. While the Black Bay collection has previously introduced dual time zone models, notably with the first Tudor Black Bay GMT in 2018, this marks the inaugural flight for the more compact 39mm Black Bay 58. Adorned with a captivating neo-vintage allure, the two-toned burgundy and black bezel, along with gilt accents, evoke the opulent era of air travel in the 1950s. Crossing time zones was then the epitome of a glamorous lifestyle, and this timepiece pays homage to that golden age.The 39mm case with a height of 12.8mm is made of stainless-steel with brushed surfaces and polished accents. Mounted to the case is a bidirectional 48 notches bezel in steel with 24-hour graduated anodised aluminum disc in black and burgundy with gilt accents and a knurled edge, the two-tone sections are meticulously crafted from anodized aluminum. It still retains its distinctive feature of lacking crown guards flanking the screw-down crown. However, the crown has undergone a redesign, now sitting flush in the middle of the case. This not only protects but also conceals the tube, a design element reminiscent of Tudor's inaugural dive watches. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal. Water-resistance can reach up to 200 meters (660 feet).Time is exhibited on a domed matte black dial with round, rectangular and a triangular hour index marker with gilt outlines, followed by a railroad-motif ring of minute index markers circling around the flange. The dial boasts a gentle radial brush texture, artfully intertwined with golden accents, paying homage to the golden age of air travel in the 1950s.The central hand duo features a distinctive "snowflake" hour hand and a sword-shaped minute hand, adding to the vintage charm of the timepiece. While the running seconds hand on this model reverts to its classic square shape, departing from the recent releases featuring the iconic lollipop hand. Additionally, it includes a central red GMT hand with a square headstock. All hands and indices are coated with Super-LumiNova for improved legibility in low-light conditions.
