TAG Heuer Formula 1

Most brands have their own kind of entry-level models for those seeking a certain prestige, without the means to fully buy in. In the case of TAG HEUER the “Formula 1” collection was one of those more affordable options. Now despite that caveat this updated trio has really elevated the F1 collection to another level. They may be quartz powered, but beyond that the attention to detail by TAG Heuer has made these watches a solid proposition. The 43mm case is made of stainless-steel with a fully brushed finish. The contrast of the surface and case bands opposing finishing touches provide a cohesive look, which can be seen all the way down into the stubby unchamfered lugs.Mounted to the case is a fixed black PVD steel bezel that includes a tachymeter scale with numerals in relief. On the flip-side is a screw-down steel case back which has been embellished by a partial checkered flag motif. A nice attention to detail that further enhances this collection's appeal among Formula 1 enthusiasts.It comes equipped with a black screw-down crown embossed with the TAG Heuer logo. Plus around it are a pair of black pushers that operate the chronograph functions. Water-resistance can reach up to 200 meters (660 feet).Time is exhibited on either a red, green, or yellow dial with an Arabic numeral for the 12 o’clock position, and applied hour index markers, while circling around the flange is a minute track ring with red numerals (on all versions) for every 5-minute increment. All three colors are very vibrant with sunburst finish that add an extra layer of allure. Plus these colors were also used on the first TAG Heuer F1 models, crafted back in the 1980’s.There are three snailed sub-dials: a small-seconds at 3 o’clock, a 1/10-second chronograph at 6 o’clock (which is further highlighted by the “TAG HEUER” and “FORMULA 1” inscriptions that surround it), and a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock.The rhodium-plated baton style central hands, Arabic numerals, and hour index markers, have all been fitted with a green luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a white date window placed between the 3 and 4 o’clock positions.

The “TAG Heuer Formula 1” (References below) is powered by the Ronda 5040D quartz chronograph movement, instead of the preferred mechanical movement. Although quartz can be convenient and has allowed these capable watches to have a lower price-tag, it may also keep some potential users away from this collection.Mounted on the watches are textured rubber straps matching each version's dial color, while secured to the wrist by a stainless-steel pin buckle.
