TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Year Of The Rabbit

Last year we saw TAG Heuer put out a “Carrera Year of the Tiger” day-date model, in a limited-edition run with a textured dial and gold plated elements. This year they continue to carve out their own space in the Asian market with the new “Carrera Year Of The Rabbit”. This release also features a textured dial, but comes equipped with chronograph capabilities. For a brand usually associated with motorsports the inclusion of a furry animal may be a first, but the trends indicate it won't be the last.The 44 mm case is made of stainless-steel with brushed surfaces that contrast with polished finish casebands. Mounted by a fixed black ceramic bezel engraved with a white tachymeter scale. This case design is based on the updated “Carrera Chronograph” that came out in 2020, which still retained the trademark Carrera style lugs.On the flip-side is a transparent sapphire exhibition case back that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The screw-on steel portion has been engraved with the inscription “ONE OF 500” and “LIMITED EDITION”, while a red rabbit motif with golden ears is seen directly on the crystal.It also comes equipped with two steel push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions, plus a knurled setting-crown engraved with the Heuer logo. All topped by a domed beveled sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on an overall black dial with rose gold applied hour indices with red interiors, while circling a sloped flange is a white minute track. Scattered throughout the majority of the dial are printed wavy lines in a gray hue that bring a touch of texture, which are intended to invoke rabbit’s fur and further embrace this model's theme.The tri-compax layout is composed of two snailed chronograph counters: a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock and a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock. The small seconds appears at 6 o’clock with a plain interior that includes a white date aperture.The rose gold plated central hands follow the same aesthetics of the indices with a touch of red, while the central chronograph hands and sub-dial hands have been kept in gold. The central hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a green luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.

The “TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Year Of The Rabbit” (Ref#: CBN2A1L.FC6521) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber Heuer 02 with 33 jewels, 168 components and 28,800 Vph. It comes equipped with a column-wheel operated chronograph, plus a vertical clutch providing high-quality chronometric accuracy. Power reserve can last up to 80 hours, when fully wound.Mounted to the timepiece is a black calfskin strap with beige stitchings, secured to the wrist by a polished stainless-steel folding clasp with double safety push-buttons. This is a limited edition of only 500 manufactured pieces and it comes in a special red box with a rabbit silhouette.For more up to date information visit the official TAG Heuer website here.
