TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph with Silver Panda Dial
TAG Heuer has been crafting watches under the Carrera emblem for more than 60 years, and the new Carrera Chronograph features a color scheme that pays homage to the original designs of the 1960s. However, the modern Carrera aesthetic remains intact, including the latest 'glassbox' sapphire crystal that was a standout feature in the 2023 models. TAG Heuer describes this new Carrera Chronograph panda, which debuted at Watches & Wonders as a perfect fusion of 'historical reverence and cutting-edge design,' blending traditional influences with contemporary innovation. The 39mm diameter case is made of stainless-steel with vertically brushed surfaces, casebands and contrasting polished bevels finish. The nearly non-existent thin bezel is due to the inclusion of a box glass crystal that envelops it, creating a seamlessly curved surface. This design decision allows for more space, making the dial more prominent and visually striking. On the flipside is a transparent sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features a redesigned openworked rotor shaped as a coat of arms from the TAG Heuer logo.It comes equipped with two piston-style pushers for controlling the chronograph functions and features a riveted setting-crown, which is engraved with the Heuer logo. Completing the design is a domed sapphire crystal in a box glass style, treated with a double layer of anti-reflective coating for improved visibility. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a silver dial that features a sunray finish with applied hour index markers, followed by an outer chronograph track ring in black, circling around the sloped flange periphery. The classic tri-compax layout includes two black chronograph counters with snailed circular-grained interiors: a 30-minute counter positioned at 3 o'clock and a 12-hour counter at 9 o'clock, while the small-seconds appears without a circular border. The distinctive feature of this Carrera watch is its panda dial, but with a unique twist of black sub-dials on a brushed silver sunray background, deviating from the classic black and white. This design choice references the Carrera 7753 SN from the late 1960s, named with a mix of English and French to denote 'Silver' and 'Noir.' This mix highlights the watch's historical lineage and its cosmopolitan flair. The central hands and dots aligned with the hour indices have all been coated with a green luminescent coating. This 2024 release further enhances legibility by introducing red lacquered hands on the black counters at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions. The addition of red accents not only lends the watch a sporty racing appearance but also pays homage to Heuer's original design ethos. There is also a framed date window at the 6 o'clock spot.
