TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Dato
Launched in 1963, the Heuer Carrera chronograph signified a turning point for the Heuer brand. Its success allowed for further creative exploration, leading to the release of the Carrera Dato 12 model in 1966, featuring a date display at the 12 o’clock position. By 1968, the design evolved, moving the date window to the 9 o’clock position, replacing a running seconds sub-dial, while situated across from the 45-minute chronograph counter. This distinct Dato chronograph design is meticulously preserved in the dial of the new Carrera Glassbox model, as a tribute to its heritage. It's worth mentioning that the original Dato 12 design was the inspiration behind the Carrera Chronograph Glassbox Panda version released last year. The unveiling of this latest green timepiece by TAG Heuer signifies the culmination of a historical narrative, presenting classic Carrera date window placements in non-limited edition models. The 39mm diameter case is made in stainless-steel with an overall polished look and brushed bevels finish. Mounted by a thin fixed bezel that assists this design in holding a dome-shaped sapphire crystal securely in place. The contrast between brushed and polished finishes is accentuated, as the alloy is meticulously shaped into the signature lugs of the Carrera style, enhancing its distinct profile. On the flip-side is a transparent sapphire exhibition case back that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features several purple jewels, steel gears, and a semi-hollow oscillating weight in the form of the TAG Heuer logo.It also comes equipped with two piston style pushers to operate the chronograph functions, plus a knurled setting-crown engraved with the Heuer logo. All topped by a domed beveled sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a teal green dial with applied rhodium-plated polished, faceted indexes, encircled by a darker green flange with a 60-seconds/minutes scale. The dial also have a circular brushed finish that bestows a more textured design. There is a green “azurage” chronograph counter with a snailed interior at 3 o’clock, while the date window is placed in the less common 9 o’clock spot. This date aperture has a steel frame and is further highlighted by its white background, which deviates from the predominant green hues. The central rhodium-plated hands and small dots aligned with the hour indices have all been coated with a green luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. It also includes a non-lume steel central chronograph seconds hand.
