TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary

As celebrations for LVMH Watch Week kicked in we got notified of several novelties. Among those was the release of the “TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary” limited edition. In honor of Jack Heuer’s iconic creation the brand has kept all its characteristic design traits and applied a “panda” style dial. Just like the previous 160th anniversary Carrera, this 60th version also comes in a 39mm stainless-steel case with an overall polished finish, while mounted by a thin matching steel fixed bezel.On the flipside is a transparent sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Its column wheel has been engraved with the inscription: “CARRERA 60TH ANNIVERSARY”.It also comes equipped with two steel push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions, plus a riveted setting-crown engraved with the Heuer logo. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet), thus preserving the significant boost other recent models have had compared to its predecessor's threshold.Time is exhibited on a silver dial with applied hour indices, followed by a ring of black seconds and thicker minute index markers circling around the periphery on a sloped flange. The dominant silver hue is further enriched by a subtle sunray brushed finish.
There are three contrasting black circular-grained sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a sub-seconds at 6 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock position. This juxtaposition of colors garner the “panda” dial moniker. It also includes a black steeled central chronograph hand, which can be activated to keep track of time laps during any race activity. The stainless-steel central hands and hour index markers have been coated with a patina-tone, but emits a green luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.

The “TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary” (Ref#: CBK221H.FC8317) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber Heuer 02 with 33 jewels, 168 components and 28,800 Vph. It comes equipped with a column-wheel operated chronograph, based on the original CH80 / 1969 plans; plus a vertical clutch providing high-quality chronometric accuracy. Power reserve can last up to 80 hours (3 days +), when fully wound.Mounted to the timepiece is a perforated black calfskin leather racing strap, secured to the wrist by a stainless-steel pin buckle. This is a limited edition watch of only 600 manufactured pieces, available starting January 2023.
