TAG Heuer Autavia COSC GMT
To celebrate this 60th anniversary TAG Heuer has released a completely new “Autavia” model with travelers in mind. They have essentially reinvented this classic into an authentic pilot’s watch with a heritage feel. Although we’ve seen a chrono-GMT version in the past, this is the first GMT-only model designed with the Autavia branding. The 42mm case is made of stainless-steel with a brushed and polished finish. Mounted to the case is a steel bi-directional bezel with a two-tone, black and blue ceramic insert with a 24 hour scale. On the flip-side is a solid steel caseback with an engraving of a plane's propeller head over a car tire, as an homage to the Autavia collection. A name that originated in the 1930’s by contracting the words “AUTomobile” and “AVIAtion”. It comes equipped with a large setting-crown with a recessed circlet grip, very reminiscent of the historically over-sized crowns seen on pilot watches. All topped by a sapphire crystal that also assists with water-resistance on this watch reaching up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a sunray-brushed dark blue dial with large applied white Arabic numerals, while circling around the flange is a railroad-motif minute ring.On the upper-half of the dial is the “TAG Heuer” logo, while on the lower-half we have the inscription “AUTAVIA” in an orange font, plus “AUTOMATIC” and “CHRONOMETER” printed in white. The combination of the 24h scaled bezel with the main dial, plus the orange GMT hand, make this watch capable of displaying 3 time zones. The central sword-style hands and Arabic numerals have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a framed date window at the 6 o’clock position.

This movement is based on the Sellita SW 330 with a chronometer certification by the Official Swiss Chronometer Control (C.O.S.C). Power reserve on this watch can last up to 50 hours, when fully wound.Mounted to the case is a 3-link brushed and polished steel bracelet, secured to the wrist by a double-push button deployant clasp.
