Last year at Watches and Wonders 2023, Rolex caused a stir in the horological world with its debut dress watch collection, the Perpetual 1908. Initially comprising four references in yellow and white gold with silver and black dials, the 1908 now welcomes a new addition: the Perpetual 1908 (Ref#: 52506) in platinum. The release of the 1908 came as a surprise, signaling a departure from the brand's renowned focus on sports watches. While the models launched last year featured conservative styling, the introduction of a guilloché dial, a first for the range, injects a fresh vitality into the aesthetics of the 1908 while maintaining its timeless design essence.The 39mm case with a height of 9.5mm is made of platinum with an overall polished finish. Rolex exclusively utilizes 950 platinum, an alloy comprising 950 parts per thousand platinum, meticulously fashioned in-house by Rolex's skilled metalworkers. It epitomizes the pinnacle of metal craftsmanship, embodying the essence of luxury in watchmaking.Mounted to the case is a divided bezel with an upper domed part and lower finely fluted finish. Platinum, rare and esteemed, captivates with its gleaming silvery hue and remarkable luminosity. Renowned as one of the densest and weightiest metals globally, platinum stands out for its exceptional resistance to corrosion, owing to its unique chemical and physical properties.On the flipside, you'll find a sapphire exhibition caseback offering a captivating view into the intricate mechanics of the movement. Here, an openwork oscillating weight crafted in 18 karat yellow gold adds a touch of elegance. What catches the eye is the Rolex Côtes de Genève decoration, which departs from the traditional style by incorporating a groove between each band. Additionally, the bridges feature diamond-cut chamfers, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal.It comes equipped with a knurled setting-crown embossed with the Rolex crown logo. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 50 meters (164 feet).Time is exhibited on an ice blue dial with faceted hour index markers and the Arabic numerals 3, 9, and 12. The ice blue dial boasts a mesmerizing guilloche rice-grain motif, characterized by its intricate three-dimensional repeating geometric pattern. Starting from the small seconds counter at 6 o'clock, this rosette-like design extends gracefully across the dial's surface. Surrounding the black printed railroad-motf minute track is a delicately crimped guilloche-work border, adding to the dial's refined aesthetic. Rolex introduces this dial through guillochage, or engine turning, a technique that intricately sculpts patterns into surfaces using a graver. This move aligns with Rolex's dedication to the Perpetual collection, paying homage to the timeless art of watchmaking while showcasing the brand's expertise and creativity.The unique ice blue dial color is reserved for select models, including the Day-Date, the Cosmograph Daytona, and the Perpetual 1908, offering a distinctive touch of elegance and sophistication. The central hands have an opened circle before the tip of the hour hand, while the minute hand is sword-shaped. There is also a small seconds counter at the 6 o’clock position. 

Rolex Perpetual 1908 iN Platinum 

The “Rolex Perpetual 1908” (Ref#: 52506) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 7140 with 38 jewels and 28,800 vph. It comes equipped with a Syloxi hairspring in silicon, Paraflex shock absorbers, Chronergy escapement, and small hacking seconds. Power reserve can last up to 66 hours, when fully wound.Mounted on the watch is a refined black alligator strap with green calfskin lining and tone-on-tone stitchings, secured to the wrist by a double folding Dualclasp crafted from platinum.
