Panerai Luminor Calendario Perpetuo Experience iN Goldtech
This limited edition watch may be hard to come by, but we had to give it a closer look. Back in 2021 we saw Officine Panerai release a pair of perpetual calendar watches (PAM00742 and PAM 00715) with distinct color options. Now they’ve returned to this concept with a tinted sapphire dial that fully reveals the day and date discs moving underneath. A unique timepiece that also includes a trip to Italy and a NFT for those lucky enough to acquire one.The 44mm cushion-shaped case is made of 18k Goldtech, which is a proprietary alloy that consists of gold and platinum. It has an overall high polished finish, except for a satin-brushed finish on the crown-protecting piece and caseback. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Also on full display is a three-quarter plate with the month, year, leap year, and a power reserve indicator. It comes equipped with the iconic Luminor Marina crown protection with the locking gear lever that secures the setting-crown in place. All these perpetual calendar complications can be set through the rotating crown, thanks to craftsmanship behind the P.4100 movement. All topped by a smoked sapphire crystal that still allows a complete view of the day and date discs. Water-resistance can reach up to 50 meters (165 feet).Time is exhibited on smoked sapphire dial with hour indexes and Arabic numerals 6 and 12, while underneath we can see various other moving parts of complications. There is a sub-dial at 9 o’clock with a small seconds and the day-night AM/PM indicators, which operate in conjunction with an arrow-tipped GMT hand that points out the second time zone. While on the parallel side at the 3 o’clock position are two gold framed windows with the current day and date.At first glance this layout may seem very “busy”, but once you get acquainted with it this is a quite simple design. The see-through aspect of the dial leaves all these numerals and weekdays exposed to us, but the upper layer does manage to stand apart. The central hands, sub-dial hands, hour index markers and Arabic numerals have been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
