Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope Paris 2024
Omega has unveiled a fresh iteration of its Speedmaster lineup, featuring a vintage-inspired dial designed specifically for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, set to commence in less than 100 days. Originally introduced in 2021, the Chronoscope offered a unique twist on the classic Speedmaster design, incorporating a sizable case and a two-counter dial reminiscent of larger models and racing-oriented editions. The vintage-inspired dial, adorned with three snailed-shaped tracks, remains unchanged since its debut, and the Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope collection has now been expanded to commemorate the Paris 2024 Olympics, with Omega once again serving as the official timekeeper of the event. The latest models exude charm and luxury, including references crafted from Moonshine gold, adding to the allure of the collection. The classic asymmetrical 43mm case with a thickness of 13mm is available made out of stainless-steel or Omega’s proprietary 18k Moonshine gold, both with a mixture of brush finished surface, casebands, contrasting with polished bevels. They are mounted by a fixed bezel with tachymeter scale in a black anodized aluminum insert (steel) or a black ceramic insert (gold). On the flipside is a closed caseback that proudly showcases the Paris 2024 Olympics logo, while housing the Co-Axial Master Chronometer cal. 9908/9909. Certified by METAS for exceptional performance, accuracy, and magnetic resistance, this movement boasts a notable feature: the integration of 60-minute and 12-hour counters within the three o'clock register. It comes equipped with a screw-in setting crown and two push-pieces to set that thin central hand in action over the various complications. While the Speedmaster case may appear sizable on paper, its actual size is moderated by the short lyre lugs, resulting in a more balanced and wearable design in reality. All topped by a box-shaped sapphire crystal. Water-resistance can reach up to 50 meters (164 feet).Despite the differing alloy options both watches come with the same exact dial. Time is exhibited on a silver opaline dial with gold applied Arabic numerals, while circling around the flange is a clearer white minute track ring with black printed indicators. It features two black sub-dials: a 12-hour counter at 3 o’clock and a small seconds at the 9 o’clock spot. Both the registers and outer scale for seconds are adorned with a captivating snailed finish and are further complemented by Moonshine gold plating on the hands and markings of the registers. In keeping with traditional Speedmaster design, the dial features a stepped periphery. However, unlike typical Speedmaster dials, the Chronoscope incorporates a trio of timing scales in dark gray print: tachymeter, pulsometer, and telemeter, adding a distinctive touch to its overall aesthetic. The central hour/minute hands have been crafted out of solid 18k Moonshine gold, just like the Arabic numerals, so this model has opted out of including any luminescent coating.
