Longines reimagines its iconic high-frequency diver with the Ultra-Chron Carbon, a modern evolution of the 1968 classic. Featuring a lightweight carbon case and advanced materials like titanium and aluminium, this watch bridges the gap between heritage and innovation. Honouring its legacy as the world’s first high-frequency dive watch, it retains key design cues from the original while integrating cutting-edge technology, making it a bold and contemporary choice for land and sea exploration.
Measuring 43mm in diameter and 14mm thick, the cushion-shaped case is crafted from lightweight carbon fibre and epoxy resin, ensuring durability while significantly reducing weight. The marbled patterns, created by compressing unidirectional carbon fibres under high pressure and heat, make each case unique and emphasize the watch’s modern, technical appeal.
The fixed titanium bezel features a matte black aluminium insert adorned with silver numerals, adding a bold contrast to the dark carbon case. Unlike the rotating bezels found on traditional dive watches, this fixed design emphasizes style over function, aligning with the watch’s contemporary reinterpretation of its heritage.
Topped with a box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, the watch comes equipped with a screw-down titanium crown and caseback. Water-resistance can reach up to 300 meters (984 feet).
The sandblasted anthracite dial introduces a rugged texture, complementing the watch’s technical aesthetic. Rectangular indices and hands with sharp, geometric lines ensure a clean and functional layout. The applied Ultra-Chron logo at 6 o’clock serves as a nod to the model’s heritage, underscoring its historical significance as the first high-frequency diver.
The dial maintains balance and legibility with its applied markers and symmetrical design. A modernized take on the original Ultra-Chron’s aesthetic, the anthracite finish and grey PVD-coated hands enhance the overall muted palette of blacks and greys, reflecting the contemporary direction of this watch.
For visibility in low-light conditions, the hour markers and hands are treated with blue-emission Super-LumiNova, ensuring a clear read even in challenging environments. The cohesive design combines vintage inspiration with modern functionality, reinforcing its position as a capable tool watch.
Longines Ultra-Chron Carbon
The “Longines Ultra-Chron Carbon” (Ref#: L2.839.4.52.2) is powered by the self-winding mechanical movement, caliber L836.6 with 25 jewels, and 36,600 vph. It is a chronometer-certified by TimeLab Geneva and features an anti-magnetic silicon balance spring. Power reserve can last up to 52 hours, when fully wound. 
Mounted on the watch is a black technical fabric strap with tone-on-tone stitching, while secured to the wrist by a titanium pin buckle.
