The IWC Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph returns in a striking new guise for 2025, clad in Armor Gold and paired with a rich Obsidian-colored dial. Produced in a limited run of just 100 pieces, this high-complication timepiece blends a flying tourbillon, a flyback chronograph, and a retrograde date into one sophisticated package. Originally introduced in 2020, this latest version pays tribute to the technical mastery and refined aesthetics of the Portugieser line while offering collectors a more exclusive and luxurious variant. The warm, lustrous tones of the gold case are perfectly complemented by the depth and gloss of the lacquered dial, setting a bold tone for one of IWC’s most elevated releases of the year.
This new release is presented in a polished and brushed 18k Armor Gold case, measuring 43.5mm in diameter and 15.9mm in thickness. This proprietary alloy is engineered for greater hardness and wear resistance than traditional 5N gold. The wide lugs are spaced at 22mm, offering a balanced and solid presence on the wrist.Flipping the watch over reveals a screw-down exhibition caseback engraved with “One out of 100,” confirming its exclusive status. Through the sapphire window, the in-house caliber 89900 comes into view with its rose gold-plated bridges, finely applied Geneva stripes, polished bevels, and perlage decoration on the mainplate. The solid 18k gold rotor, also finished in matching tones, adds visual coherence and emphasizes the movement’s refined architecture.
It comes equipped with an Armor Gold folding clasp and a faceted setting crown, ensuring secure wear. All is topped by a domed, box-style sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet).

The dial is rendered in a deep Obsidian tone with a refined sunburst finish, further enhanced by the application of 15 transparent lacquer layers to add extraordinary depth and sheen. A flying tourbillon is positioned at 6 o’clock, while the retrograde date arcs between 8 and 11 o’clock.The chronograph register at 12 o’clock features dual hands for elapsed hours and minutes. Matching the case, the applied hour markers and feuille hands are crafted from solid gold, while the chronograph seconds hand is slim and elegant, gliding across the dial with precision.In addition to its legibility and layout, the combination of Obsidian black and gold lends a luxurious contrast that distinguishes this reference within the Portugieser collection.

It is equipped with a flyback chronograph, one-minute flying tourbillon, and a retrograde date complication. The movement features a rose gold finish across its plates and bridges and includes a solid 18k 5N gold rotor. Power reserve can last up to 68 hours when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is a black alligator leather strap with tone-on-tone stitching, secured by an Armor Gold folding clasp.
