For 2025, Chopard pays tribute to a motorsport legend with the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph “Tribute to Sir Stirling Moss” released as part of its 38th consecutive year sponsoring the iconic Mille Miglia rally. Housed in a refined 40.5mm case made of Chopard’s proprietary Lucent Steel, this limited edition chronograph honors the timeless elegance and racing heritage of Moss’s famed 300 SLR. Featuring a vintage-inspired opaline silver dial, COSC-certified chronograph movement, and period-correct racing strap, this timepiece channels the spirit of 1950s endurance racing while reaffirming Chopard’s deep ties to the automotive world.
Crafted from Chopard's proprietary Lucent Steel alloy, the case of the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Tribute to Sir Stirling Moss measures 40.5mm in diameter and 12.88mm in height. Its refined proportions offer a more classic take on automotive chronographs, with softly curved lugs, piston-style chronograph pushers, and a large knurled crown that invites manual interaction. The polished and brushed finishing provides strong visual contrast and adds a sense of luxurious restraint to the vintage-inspired design.
Around the back, a sapphire crystal reveals the automatic chronograph movement inside, adorned with blue screws and circular graining. The display caseback is engraved with the watch's name and individual serial number out of the 70-piece limited series.
The fixed bezel is smooth and polished, keeping visual attention on the dial. All topped by a box-type sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment that protects the front of the watch. The setting crown is unguarded, in keeping with the mid-century aesthetic of vintage racing watches. Water-resistance can reach up to 50 meters (165 feet).
The dial of the Tribute to Sir Stirling Moss edition is crafted from brass and finished with a silver opaline treatment that evokes the matte bodywork of Moss’s legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. Framed by a precision-printed minute track and featuring crisp black Arabic numerals, the design aims to balance vintage aesthetics with high contrast for daily legibility. Three recessed sub-dials sit symmetrically at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock, offering a 12-hour counter, small seconds, and 30-minute totalizer, respectively.
A black tachymeter scale circles the outer perimeter, reinforcing the motorsport theme and adding functional chronograph utility. The central chronograph seconds hand, outlined in red, brings a subtle touch of sportiness, while the faceted dauphine hour and minute hands offer clean legibility without overwhelming the layout. A discreet date window is positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock, aligning with the classic chronograph layout.
Rhodium-plated accents add refinement, while luminescent material has been applied to the main hands and hour markers for readability in low-light conditions. Although the dial leans into historical cues, its finishing and proportions are thoroughly contemporary.
