Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act I
Just as they did back in 2003 for the 50th anniversary, Blancpain is now introducing a new model to commemorate the 70th anniversary of their “Fifty Fathoms” model. In order to obtain an equal distribution across the globe, this limited edition will be released in three 70-piece series, each of which will be dedicated to a specific region. The 42.3 mm case is made of stainless-steel with an overall polished finish. This is a smaller diameter than what Blancpain tends to use for this respective model, although limited editions and their Bathyscaphe version are commonly crafted with similar proportions.Mounted on the watch is its signature unidirectional bezel in black with a 60-minute scale engraving with large index markers, numerals and diamond shape, all in a green Super-LumiNova coating. On the flipside is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features a platinum (an alloy commonly used to celebrate 70th wedding anniversaries) oscillating weight decorated with a “Fifty Fathom 70th” inscription. The steel rim is engraved with “BLANCPAIN”, “Fifty Fathoms” in a cursive font and the unique number for each of these limited editions. It comes equipped with a knurled screw-down crown, nestled between small crown guards. As usual this model features long and thick protruding lugs that provide a very comfortable and secure wrist fit. All topped and sealed by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Water-resistance can reach up to 300 meters (1000 feet).Time is exhibited on a black sun-ray brushed dial with rectangular hour index markers and the Arabic numerals: 3, 6, 9, and 12. The flange portion has a minute track ring made up of smaller white colored markings. The upper half of the dial has the Blancpain logo printed in white, plus “Fifty Fathoms” in a cursive font. While on the lower half we find the same cursive font spelling out “70th Anniversary Series I”. The series numeral will change to reflect each specific region, ranging from I to III on the dial. The central sword-shaped hour/minute hands, hour index markers and Arabic numerals have all been fitted with a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions, which seamlessly blends in the background with a black interior and white numerals.
