Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edición Limitada
On this latest release Bell & Ross seems to have headed south of the border towards an historically controversial island. The gold and brown color scheme of the new “Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edición Limitada” was inspired by Cuba, or more precisely their famous cigars. The spanish “edición limitada” (which simply means “limited edition'') also hints at a hispanic or latino connection. Either way this subtle mix of materials and colors has resulted in a very charming timepiece. The iconic Bell & Ross circle in a square inspired by aviation control decks, appears here in a 42mm stainless-steel case with a vertically brushed surface and polished chamfered sides finish. While mounted to the main case block is a rounded off square 18k rose gold bezel, with exposed steel screws in each of the four corners. The rose gold elements combined with the brown dial offer a very harmonious feel to this timepiece. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Although the view is slightly obstructed by the ampersand “&” and the “Edición Limitada” inscription with each models unique limited edition number, which has been applied directly to the sapphire crystal. It also comes equipped with two push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions. Topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Equipped with a setting crown and a water-resistance that can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a brown dial with gold-plated applied hour index markers and the Arabic numerals: 6 and 12. While circling around a sloped flange is a ring of printed minute markings with double-digit numerals for every 5-minute increment. It also features two squared sub-dials with a snailed interior: a sub-seconds at 3 o’clock and a 30-minute counter aligned at the 9 o’clock position. These sub-dials appear with a rose gold hued outline that provides a slight contrast that blends in very nicely with the chocolatey background. An extra touch of color appears in the form of a red chronograph, sub-dial hand, and the cursive font “Edición Limitada” on the lower-half of the dial. There is also a small round tone-on-tone date aperture placed between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions. The central steel hour/minute hands, hour index markers, and Arabic numerals have all been fitted with a luminescent coating.
