Bell & Ross BR 05 Horolum
Back in 2017, Bell & Ross introduced the “BR 03-92 Horolum” that based its name on “Horo” (which refers to watchmaking) and “Lum” (which stands for light). Now they’ve taken this concrete floor and runway lights inspired concept over to their “BR 05” collection, for another limited edition pair of this “lumen” based timepiece. The iconic Bell & Ross circle in a square format appears here in a 40mm case made of micro-blasted stainless-steel. Mounted to the case is a fixed rounded out square bezel with exposed screws. On the flip-side we have an exhibition case back, which allows a view to the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The central portion is adorned with the Bell & Ross ampersand "&" logo.It comes equipped with a setting-crown surrounded by crown guards, which give the case an overall concise and compact look. The crown has also been engraved with the ampersand logo that Bell & Ross is renowned for. All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, which assists with water-resistance reaching up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a matte grey dial with steel applied hour index markers, which are recessed into a sloped outer flange. The color-scheme here was inspired by the minerality of concrete, as a symbolism of the stripping down of contemporary architecture. On the upper-half of the dial we find the “Bell & Ross” logo in a black font. Overall a very clean and relatively simple layout, but also a highly effective design. As the brands says this is “a watch intended for urban explorers who can be seen in the city any time of day or night”The skeletonized semi-hollow central steel hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a light green luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. This is the same color used to light up airport runways. There is also a date aperture at the 3 o’clock position, thus providing the essentials for our daily needs.
