Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar iN Purple
Some colors such as black, blue, and white tend to be the most seen on wrist watches, while other colors such as red and green also have a wide appeal. But, some hues don’t pop up as much as they maybe should. That’s the case for this new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar with a purple dial. It may be an uncommon color, but the different shades that AP applied on this watch have given it a more burgundy tone, which reminds me of a fine bottle of wine. The 41mm case is made of 18k white gold with brushed surfaces and polished accents. All these finishing touches extend onto the integrated bracelet and provide a very cohesive and solid look. Mounted to the case is AP’s signature octagonal bezel with a vertical satin-brushed finish and eight exposed screws. Plus between each screw is a total of 32 baguette cut diamonds, adding an extra twinkle that gets enhanced when interacting with distinct light sources. On the flip-side is a transparent exhibition case back, which allows a view of the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features an openworked 22k gold rotor with a “Côtes de Genève” finish. It comes equipped with a setting-crown adorned by the AP logo. All topped by a glareproofed sapphire crystal. Water-resistance can reach up to 20 meters (65 feet). Time is exhibited on a purple dial in the signature Audemars Piguet “Grande Tapisserie” pattern with 18k white gold applied hour index markers. The full dial is permeated in varying shades of purple, from a more burgundy center, to a darker tone around the flange area. There are three purple-toned sub-dials with snailed interiors and white markings (except for the 31st day of the month in red): a date display at 3 o’clock; a day indicator at 9 o’clock; and finally the current month and leap year can be observed at the 12 o’clock position. It also includes a Moonphase indicator at 6 o’clock with a star-lit dark blue sky and a silver moon.Circling around the sloped rotating inner bezel is a darker purple hue with a combination of even numbers and dots for the odd numbers that mark out the week indications. As long as the user keeps the watch fully wound, the perpetual calendar will not require a correction until 2100.The central 18k white gold hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
