Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar iN Blue Ceramic

The blues when accompanied by a melody are a way to turn melancholy into art. But, what we got here is a totally different blue note. This new edition of the “Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar” has been crafted with a nearly all blue ceramic case and integrated bracelet. As the brand stated themselves: “Entirely dressed in blue, the new Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in 41 mm introduces the Manufacture's first case and bracelet fully crafted in blue ceramic. The matching blue Grande Tapisserie dial and sub-dials further bestow the timepiece with an air of starlit sky.”The 41mm case is made of blue ceramic with a mix of polished accents and a vertically brushed surface finish. Mounted to the case is AP’s signature octagonal bezel also with a vertical satin-brushed finish and eight exposed titanium screws. On the flip-side is a transparent exhibition case back, which allows a view of the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Among various gears, and purple jewels, is an openworked 22k gold rotor with a “Côtes de Genève” finish. It comes equipped with a screw-locked crown adorned by the AP logo. All topped by a glare-proof sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 20 meters (65 feet). Time is exhibited on a blue dial with the signature Audemar Piguet “Grande Tapisserie” pattern dial with 18k white gold applied hour index markers. Some fans are even linking this particular blue hue to the “Avatar” universe created by James Cameron. There are four blue-toned sub-dials with snailed interiors and white markings (except for the 31st day of the month in red): a date display at 3 o’clock; a Moonphase indicator at 6 o’clock; a day indicator at 9 o’clock; and finally the current month and leap year can be observed at the 12 o’clock position. It also encompasses a blue sloped inner bezel with a combination of even numbers and dots for the odd numbers that count down the years 52 weeks. As long as the user keeps the watch fully wound, the perpetual calendar will not require a correction until 2100. The central 18k white gold hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
